FIFA Collections

UPDATE: You can also buy the merchandise covered here as well as much more that’s part of FIFA Collections from FIFA International UK (click here for the full range of items)

You may be wondering what else is FIFA doing other than organizing World Cups, publishing national team rankings and other such things? Well, you may be interested in knowing that they also release various fashion ranges such as the recent FIFA Collections. This one has been out in Asia for a while but recently became available in the UK as well. It features previous FIFA World Cup mascots and motifs as well as blazers, polo shirts, track tops or waterproof jackets. You can check out the full range here (you can also buy from FIFA International UK). I must say that the shirts are particularly interesting. Here are some of our favourite items from the collection:

FIFA World Cup™ Football Fever Bursts on to the Global Fashion Scene

FIFA’s Spring Summer ‘10 (SS10) sports lifestyle collection will be launched on the high street in February 2010 to football and fashion fans across the world. 2010 sees the FIFA World Cup™ taking place in South Africa, heralding a year of massive football hype when the global population will be celebrating the biggest football competition in the world. www.FIFA.com/fifacollections showcases the collection and contains a link to FIFA’s new online store.

FIFA launched it’s first ever fashion collection with AW09 in Asia. 2010 will see the inspired new collection hit the high streets worldwide. SS10 has evolved dramatically from the launch range in terms of style, the incorporation of nostalgic football stories and an increased women’s range. The five FIFA collections each encapsulate a specific story from FIFA’s rich sporting history and presence; ‘1904’, ‘Editions’, ‘Code’, ‘Essentials’ and ‘Event’. Each collection has been designed with very individual identities ranging from the ‘1904’ collection with its strong heritage and preppy styling, to the classically branded ‘Essentials’ range and the vibrant, African inspired colours of the ‘Event’ collection.

‘1904’ is the range of men’s vintage lifestyle apparel celebrating FIFA’s heritage and has strong historic references to FIFA’s inception in Paris, 1904. The collection has a relaxed fit and a retro collegiate style that encapsulates elements of FIFA’s history. Careful research has gone into every detail and each piece of clothing reflects a unique part of FIFA’s history. The range includes varsity style T-shirts and polo shirts, lightweight knits, original player tops, jackets, blazers, cardigans, hoodies, shorts both smart and casual style, shirts and accessories. All feature graphics inspired by the origins of football and FIFA’s first headquarters in Paris on Rue Saint-Honoré 229.

‘Editions’ looks forward to next year’s FIFA World Cup™ by celebrating past FIFA World Cup™ winners with contemporary sportswear styles. The Spring Summer 10 collection takes historical influences from 1930 to 2006, combining country and era specific typography and eye-catching graphics to illustrate the winning matches. The collection focuses on seven key winning nations; Argentina, Brasil, England, France, Germany, Italy, Uruguay. Garments available include men’s and women’s retro tracksuits, T-shirts, and polo shirts which will appeal to football fans beyond the participating nations. The original team colours worn in the tournament are used, including sky blue for Uruguay, white and gold for Brasil and navy, red and white for Italy.

‘Code’ is a range of street football inspired clothing which captures the energy of youth football played around the world. With the upcoming FIFA World Cup™, this target audience is set to grow dramatically. Bold and bright, “Code” is an urban streetwear range comprising of casual T-shirts, polo shirts, hoodies, jackets, and pants. The style is strongly influenced by street football moves from host nation players in Africa. Colours jump from the clothes with scarlet, bright lime, cobalt and mustard vying with deep violet and white and grey. Graphics are inspired by African Bantu art.

‘Essentials’ is the backbone of the FIFA SS10 collection and offers a large selection of traditionally styled T-shirts, polo shirts, knits, jackets, bags and headwear for men and women. Simple, classic and logo dominant, this collection features timeless pieces of non-performance sportswear and lifestyle apparel with a strong football signature.

‘Event’ celebrates the forthcoming FIFA World Cup™ and draws inspiration from South Africa’s rich heritage and geography. The collection comes in a rainbow of colours including royal blue, green, red and yellow. The striking, abstract graphics have a strong 1990s influence and are particularly arresting on the asymmetric dresses and cropped women’s shell jackets. The women’s range extends to hooded dresses, micro shorts, street style ¾ length track pants, as well as hoodies, T-shirts and cutout vests. The men’s range includes polo shirts, hoodies, street jackets, shell jackets and various styles of trousers.

The FIFA collections embody the authentic heritage and values of FIFA – founded over 100 years ago in Paris and will appeal to both football and fashion fans across the world, especially during FIFA World Cup™ year. They’ve been cleverly researched and designed to incorporate inspiration from both key historic football moments and contemporary fashion trends.

Spring Summer 10 will be available in FIFA Official Stores®, online at www.FIFA.com/fifacollections, and across an extensive network of FIFA branded retail spaces in markets worldwide from February 2010 onwards.

FIFA Collections are designed and manufactured through Global Brands Group – the international brand management and licensing company which is FIFA’s exclusive worldwide Master Licensee.

Nuon’s Temperature Sensitive Netherlands T-Shirt

There’s a new Netherlands t-shirt out from one of their main sponsors, Nuon. The cool thing about this one is that the shirt starts dark and turns orange as your body temperature rises. Here’s more from the press release:

Nuon turns the Netherlands orange with temperature-sensitive shirt

The Netherlands is all set to score points during the upcoming World Cup with a highly unique T- shirt whose colour changes with the temperature. The colour that the shirt turns to is…Orange: the Netherlands’ national colour!

Fluctuations in body temperature cause the shirt to change colour. The Nuon Energyshirt is available from 26 May in our webshop for energy saving articles at www.nuon.nl in the sizes S to XXL. Everyone can buy one for € 14.95. So be a sport and put all your energy into supporting the Netherlands, buy the Energyshirt, cheer yourself warm and back our men in Orange!

Nuon has been sponsor of the Dutch national team (Dutch FA) since 2002. Besides organising the annual selection of ball boys for the Dutch team’s matches, Nuon festively marks the tournament years with an original energy-related item.

Pretty cool! So far the only place you can buy it from is nuon.nl. There are also to very funny ads that show how the t-shirt functions:
